Effective Jan 1, 2012, Colorado's Jake Snakenberg Youth Sports Concussion Act (SB11-040) requires coaches of all youth organized sports complete annual concussion recognition education. Further, if a coach suspects a youth athlete has sustained a concussion, the coach must immediately remove the athlete from play, and the athlete cannot return to practice or play until evaluated by a licensed health care provider and received written clearance to return to play. The bill provides limited immunity to volunteer coaches and other individuals who assist as volunteers for youth athletic activities and to members of the board of directors or governing boards of a school district, private club, or recreation facility. TRAINING/CERTIFICATION
ALL PARKER YOUTH SPORT COACHES MUST EITHER SUBMIT (UPLOAD) A TRAINING CERTIFICATE OR CERTIFY BY TAKING THE PYS CONCUSSION CERTIFICATION TEST INCLUDED AS PART OF THIS REGISTRATION.
Parker Youth Sports recommends the CDC online concussion training for youth sports coaches, however, other resources (NFHS, CHSAA, etc) may be used provided they cover the topics required by Colorado law:
If a training certificate is not provided, you will be required to take the Parker Youth Sports Certification test (11 questions) included below. A passing score of 100% is required for certification.
A guide for logging in to the CDC website and completing the training can be viewed by clicking the link below. Once you have completed the training, download a copy of the certificate and return to this certification page to attach it on the next page.
NOTE: You should have already completed the coaches registration and been approved by the Sport Directory before submitting your training certification.
NOTE: After completing the CDC (or other certification training) you MUST return to this page to complete certification with Parker Youth Sports and upload your certificate.
ANNUAL RECERTIFICATION
Annual training and recertification is required for all PYS coaches and assistance coaches per Colorado law. Annual training and recertification can be accomplished using the same resources indicated above (CDC, NFHS, CHSAA, etc) or other sources provided they meet the requirements above. If the training provides a new certificate please attach it below. If the training does NOT provide an updated certificate, you can "self certify" by taking the PYS Concussion Certification Test.
